Skills And Qualifications Needed
Strong listening skills are needed to be a personal trainer. You will have to be able listen to people’s goals and plan an exercise plan according to what they want. You should also be encouraging, patient, organized and supportive. Furthermore, you should live a healthy lifestyle. Personal trainers are required to lead by example.
There are also prerequisites that you will have to complete prior to starting your personal trainer courses. You will need to be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or GED. Keep in mind that some organizations may have additional requirements that you will need to meet before starting your personal trainer courses.
You are required to get certified before you can legally work as a personal trainer. In order to get certified, you will need to complete an accredited personal training program and pass the certification examination. The amount of time that it takes to complete the education and training can vary, depending on the program. However, most people are able to complete their courses within one to six months.
You also have the option of completing online fitness courses. Online courses are the ideal option if you are working and/or raising family. However, if you choose to complete online fitness courses, then you will need to make sure that they are accredited.
Physiology, anatomy, nutrition, injury prevention and exercise prescription are examples of some of the topics that will be covered in a personal training program. Students will also spend time in the gym learning how to properly train people. Students will typically spend an equal amount of time in the classroom and in the gym. You are still required to complete hands-on training even if you complete your courses online.
After you have successfully completed the necessary training, you will be able to take the certification examination. You will have the option of working in a health club, medical facility, gym or start your own business after you are certified.
